How to Add Solana to MetaMask Wallet

If you're searching for how to add Solana to MetaMask wallet, I hope you will find this guide helpful for adding SOL token via Binance Smart Chain.

Native Solana token cannot be added to the MetaMask Web 3 wallet.

Solana chain network is not Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible, and MetaMask does not support it yet.

The wallet only support blockchains that are written in the Solidity programming language, which is the basis of EVM.

To use the Solana on MetaMask wallet, you will need to convert it to Binance Smart Chain (BSC) version.

Metamask is a non-custodial wallet, which is primarily used to interact with the Ethereum and other EVM-compatible blockchains.

Solana on the other hand is a powerful decentralized blockchain built to enable scalable and user-friendly decentralized apps (DApps).

It is also one of the popular decentralized blockchains with thousands of projects spanning DeFi, NFTs, Web3 etc.

If MetaMask is your primary wallet for storing crypto assets, you may want to know if it’s possible to add Solana network to Metamask.

In this guide, you will learn how you can add Solana to your MetaMask wallet using some alternative method.

Let’s begin…

How to add Solana to MetaMask via BSC

Alternatively, you can add a Wrapped version of Solana deployed on other blockchains like the Binance Smart Chain.

It may not be the native SOL token on the Solana network itself, but also carries the same value.

You can not send native Solana tokens (SOL) to your Metamask Wrapped SOL wallet address, because the two tokens are deployed on different blockchains even though they have the same value.

Below are the steps to add Wrapped Solana to your Metamask via the BSC (Binance Smart Chain) network.

  1. Go-to the CoinMarketCap website
  2. Copy the contract address (i.e. BEP20)
  3. Open the Metamask browser extension
  4. Enter your wallet account password
  5. Select Binance Smart Chain network
  6. Click on ‘Import Tokens’ option
  7. Paste the contract address you copied
  8. Click ‘Add Custom Token’ option.

You have successfully added Wrapped version of Solana to your MetaMask crypto wallet.

Can I add Solana to MetaMask?

No you cannot add the native Solana token (programmed with Rust language) to MetaMask.

However, you can have it converted to BSC, which is supported by the MetaMask wallet.

Can you add Solana network to MetaMask?

Metamask is operated by the Ethereum Consensys team and have not announced any plan to support non-Ethereum networks.

This is to say, you can’t add Solana chain to MetaMask wallet.

Metamask only support EVM compatible networks (like; Avalanche (AVAX), Fantom (FTM), Binance (BSC) etc.)

Does MetaMask support Solana NFTs?

Metamask does not support Solana NFTs, because it’s not compatible with the native Solana chain network.

Can you convert Wrapped SOL to SOL?

Yes you can still convert Wrapped Solana token to the native Solana cryptocurrency using some advanced methods.

Follow my guide on how to convert a Wrapped SOL to SOL token.

Final words

If you were searching for how to add Solana to MetaMask wallet, I hope you found this guide helpful.

You’re unable to add the native Solana token ($SOL) to your wallet, because Solana is not an EVM-compatible blockchain.

MetaMask can only be configured with blockchains that are compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).

Alternatively, you can add Wrapped version of Solana (Wrapped SOL) to Metamask wallet from Binance exchange.

Binance platform can allow you to send Solana to external wallets using multiple networks.

If you’re sending $SOL from Binance to MetaMask, ensure you selected ‘BNB Smart Chain (BEP20)’ as transaction network to be used.
