Ripple network cannot be added to the MetaMask wallet.
This ultimately means that MetaMask does support addition, or bridging of the chain from Ethereum, Solana, or other networks.
The reason is because, Ripple (XRP) network is not an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible blockchain.
Therefore, you cannot create or use the XRP network to perform swaps, or earn yield like investors do on Ethereum via web-apps like; UniSwap or AAVE.
However, MetaMask only supports blockchain networks that are written with Solidity, and that’s the programming language as Ethereum.
In other words, to add Ripple to MetaMask, you must first add the Binance Smart Chain (BSC) network.
If you’re still here, keep reading, because we will show you how to add Ripple crypto-coin to MetaMask using Binance chain.
How to add XRP to MetaMask
Before we start showing you how to add Ripple to your MetaMask account, you’ll need to register an account on Binance and have XRP in the wallet.
If you use my link to register on the exchange, you will get discounts on your transactions.
Adding XRP to MetaMask wallet
To make this tutorial very simple, we’re going to guide you using the browser extension of the wallet.
Add Binance Smart Chain (BSC) network to your MetaMask Web3 wallet using the chain details:
Network Name: Binance Smart Chain
New RPC URL: https://bsc-dataseed.binance.org/
Chain ID: 56
Block Explorer URL: https://bscscan.com
Once you’ve added the BSC network to the web 3.0 wallet, then follow these steps below to continue…
- Open your MetaMask wallet
- Copy BEP20 contract address
- Go-to Binance crypto exchange
- Click on ‘Withdraw’ option in your wallet
- Paste the Ripple’s contract address
- Send XRP (BEP20 version) to your wallet
- Confirm the reception in your MetaMask.
Congratulations… you have successfully added Ripple cryptocurrency to your MetaMask.
You can only send XRP to your wallet account on MetaMask using the Binance Smart Chain (BEP20) network.
Yes, it’s possible to transfer most of your funds from Binance exchange to MetaMask, but with the BEP20 version of the tokens.
The XRP network cannot be added to your Metamask, because it is not an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible blockchain.
The wallet only supports networks that are written in the same programming language as Ethereum.
Ledger hardware wallets are the best with support for XRP network, and that means you can send and hold XRP with them.
However, you cannot perform any actions on-chain, because the Ripple company has not built out the proper infrastructure.
Ripple (XRP) is a crypto asset developed reduce transaction speeds and prevent the need for intermediaries.
Transactions with the Ripple network only takes from 3 to 5 seconds for completion.
It’s simply not possible to add XRP to MetaMask or bridge it to the Ethereum, Solana, or any other network.
The Ripple’s blockchain has little to no real-world utility for XRP, and few DeFi applications has only been built on their network.
If you’re looking to buy XRP, the only wallet to use is a hardware wallet, due to their high security standards.
Keeping your transaction footprint hidden is important for the safety of your funds, hence the usage of a Virtual Private Network is necessary.
