Avalanche cryptocurrency has been all the rage in the market space.
This is due to its transaction speed, low cost fees and billion-dollar ecosystem that sets it apart from other blockchains.
Since Avalanche network is set to reach new heights, Altcoin enthusiasts are flocking over in hopes of securing some profit.
Users often find it difficult to send AVAX (Avalanche native coin) from a centralized exchange (CEX) to a noncustodial wallet like MetaMask.
However, sending AVAX from Coinbase to MetaMask, you will need to add Avalanche network to the wallet.
If you’ve ran into this hurdle, then don’t worry, because I’ll be going in-depth on how to send AVAX from Coinbase to MetaMask.

How to send AVAX from Coinbase to MetaMask
Before we start, make sure you have an account created on Coinbase, then download and install the MetaMask browser wallet extension.
Once you done that, then you can follow these steps to send AVAX to MetaMask from Coinbase…
Step 1: Buy AVAX from Coinbase
Visit the Coinbase cryptocurrency exchange and go-to the ‘Trade’ tab using the navigation menu.
Search for ‘AVAX’ or ‘avalanche’ cryptocurrency token with the top search bar, and select ‘Avalanche’ once it pops up.
On the next screen, hit ‘Trade’, then Buy AVAX by leaving everything as is and enter desired amount you want to purchase.
In my own case, I used credit card to buy AVAX, but there are options depending on your personal preference.
Once that’s done, click ‘Preview buy’, check if everything is okay, then click ‘Buy now’.
Now, for the next step, we need to manually add the Avalanche network into MetaMask, as it isn’t integrated within the app yet.
Step 2: Add Avalanche network to MetaMask
Under your MetaMask, switch the connected blockchain by clicking on ‘Main Ethereum Network tab to open the dropdown menu.
On this menu, you’ll find all the blockchains you’re connected to, then scroll down to ‘Custom RPC’ and enter Avalanche network settings.
Here are the details:
- Network Name: Avalanche Network
- New RPC URL: https://api.avax.network/ext/bc/C/rpc
- ChainID: 43114
- Symbol: AVAX
- Explorer: https://snowtrace.io/
If you’ve inputted it correctly, it will say you’ve added Avalanche network into your MetaMask wallet successfully.
Step 3: Transfer AVAX from Coinbase to MetaMask
Since you’ve successfully bought AVAX on Coinbase and set up Avalanche network on MetaMask, then you should proceed.
In this step is exactly how to send AVAX to MetaMask from Coinbase, so ensure you’re logged into the wallet with Avalanche network selected.
Next, click the AVAX ticker (which should say ‘0 AVAX’ as you haven’t deposited any), then click the ‘Receive’ option.
Copy the Avalanche (AVAX) wallet address the QR code as you’ll need it for the next step.
Go back to Coinbase, head over to the Assets tab, and click Avalanche, then tap the arrow at the top right.
Enter the amount you want to send, and you’ll get an Enter recipient screen.
Next, paste in the address you copied from MetaMask wallet – click ‘Preview send’, and select ‘Self-custody wallet’ option, then the ‘Send now’ button.
You will most likely have to enter your 2-FA information, but besides this, you’re good to go!
